Chamonix is one of those places where simply being outdoors feels special. The valley stretching beneath the peaks of Mont Blanc offers endless ways to explore on foot or by bike. Whether you want a gentle stroll or a challenging climb the scenery is always breathtaking.
There are walks for every level from easy riverside paths to high mountain trails with incredible views. The Petit Balcon routes on both sides of the valley are ideal for relaxed half-day walks with cafés and viewpoints along the way. For something more demanding try the Grand Balcon Nord between the Aiguille du Midi and Montenvers or the Grand Balcon Sud from Plan Praz to Flégère. Both offer unforgettable views across to Mont Blanc.
If you prefer a quieter pace stay lower in the valley and follow the woodland paths around Les Bois and Les Praz. In spring and summer the meadows are full of wildflowers and the sound of the river follows you most of the way.
Cycling is another brilliant way to explore the valley. There are scenic road routes and marked trails for mountain bikes and e-bikes. The ride to Vallorcine or Servoz offers stunning views and peaceful roads while those looking for a challenge can take on the climbs towards Col des Montets or Col de la Forclaz.
For mountain biking the Le Tour and Les Houches areas have dedicated trails for all abilities. E-bikes are easy to hire and make it simple to cover more ground and reach high viewpoints without too much effort.
Our trusted rental partners Intersport and Legends both offer quality bikes, e-bikes and all the gear you need along with friendly advice to help you choose the right setup for your day out.
We provide all our guests with detailed suggestions and maps for walks and cycle routes before their visit so you can plan your days with ease and make the most of the valley.
