Chamonix’s extraordinary setting at the foot of Mont Blanc has attracted visitors since the mountain’s first ascent in 1786. This iconic valley has drawn explorers, mountaineers and nature lovers from around the world.

In summer Chamonix offers an unforgettable experience: dramatic peaks, lush valleys and glacial landscapes set the stage for high-alpine hikes, trail running, climbing, mountain biking and more. With its rich mountaineering heritage and vibrant village life Chamonix blends history, culture and outdoor adventure like nowhere else in the Alps.

For the golfers amongst you there are several stunning Alpine courses in and around Chamonix, not least the Chamonix 18 hole golf course which must have one of the most beautiful summer views in the Alps. It is situated in Les Praz, 3km from Chamonix and 5km from Argentière.

Chamonix comes alive in the summer with a vibrant calendar of events that celebrate sport, tradition and mountain culture.

Late June sees the 42km Mont Blanc Marathon, a spectacular race through alpine trails, attracting trail runners from around the world. It’s just as thrilling for spectators, with an electric atmosphere and stunning scenery.

14 July Bastille Day. France’s national holiday brings big celebrations to Chamonix, with live music, fireworks and a buzzing town square.

Later in July, Chamonix hosts CosmoJazz – a free summer music festival set against stunning high-altitude backdrops by day, then moving to the heart of town for evening concerts and celebrations.

Mid August the Fete des Guides run by the historic Compagnie des Guides in their traditional climbing apparel, includes climbing competitions, fireworks, traditional fare, live music and general celebration.

Late August is the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc. One of the world’s most iconic endurance races, the UTMB starts and finishes in Chamonix, covering 171km across three countries, seven valleys and 10,000m of elevation. The entire valley joins in with concerts, barbecues and a festive atmosphere to cheer on the runners.

Why not take on the iconic Tour du Mont Blanc and spend the night in a mountain refuge surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery? Day trips to Annecy or Martigny (Switzerland) are also easily arranged from Chamonix.
